It is 8:40 and you want to know how the day looks. By lunch you are asking whether Thursday has room for a longer new-patient visit. Before you close up, you want to see whether next month is filling in. Those are three different zoom levels, and the Calendar has a view for each.
Switching views
Open the view menu in the Calendar toolbar, the button that names the current view, and pick Day, Few Days, Week or Month. The ‹ and › arrows beside the date title move by that view's own step: a day in Day, a week in Week, a month in Month. In Few Days they move by however many days are showing.
The view, the date and the Status, facility and provider filters live in the page address, so a bookmark or a link to a teammate opens the same view. The Charting and Billing filters do not travel in the link. Day is the default and is left out of the address.
- Day shows one date, with a column for each provider (or room, if you group by room).
- Few Days starts on the date you are on and shows as many days as fit your window, from two up to seven. It adjusts as you resize.
- Week is the fixed Sunday to Saturday week around the date you are on.
- Month shows the whole month as a grid of days.
Day, Few Days and Week: an hour-by-hour grid
These three views draw a real time grid. An appointment sits at its start time and is as tall as the visit is long, so a 60-minute initial visit looks twice the size of a 30-minute follow-up, and gaps in the day are visible at a glance. Each block shows the start time and the patient's name.
The hour axis starts at 8 AM and ends at 6 PM, and it stretches for an early or late appointment on any visible day, so nothing is ever hidden above or below the grid. Every column shares the same axis, which keeps one provider's 9:00 level with another's.
Click an appointment to open its details: the time, who it is with, the service and room, and any badges such as Overlap override or Late notice. From there you can open the visit's chart, Reschedule or Cancel. Two appointments that overlap on purpose, through the overlap override (see when a booking conflicts), sit side by side rather than on top of each other.
Block colors carry meaning that matches the Charting filter and the dashboard's Today's schedule card: a visit with no note yet, a note in progress, and a finished chart each look different, and cancelled visits and expired holds are drawn apart from them. In Few Days and Week, click a day's heading to jump into that day's Day view.
Month: how busy is each day
Month is a grid of full weeks, including the trailing days of the neighboring months. Each day shows a count of its appointments and is shaded in four steps: none, one or two, three to five, and six or more. Today has a stronger outline and the date you are on is ringed in the accent color. Click any day to open its Day view.
The counts follow your filters, Status included, so cancelled visits do not count unless you ask for them. It is a plain count of appointments, not a percentage of your open hours.
How the views fit with the rest of the Calendar
- Calendar filters (filtering the calendar) narrow every view at once, including the Month counts.
- Group by room swaps provider columns for room columns when you have rooms.
- Drag to book works on the three grid views: drag across open space to start a booking there.
- The mini calendar (jumping to a date) jumps to any date, and on a phone the Calendar opens to Month and drills into a day when you tap it.
