Expiring card badge

Saved cards that lapse within about two months are flagged for staff and patients.

Tactile editorial artwork for Expiring Cards

A patient has had a card on file since spring. It prints 11/2026, and it is now late October. If nobody notices, the next balance-due charge or no-show fee fails on the day you need it. The badge puts that in front of you while there is still time to ask for a new card.

What gets flagged

Every saved card shows its expiry next to the last four digits. A card that is still valid but lapses within 60 days gets an Expiring soon badge. The clock runs to the last day of the month printed on the card, so a card marked 11/2026 stays good through the end of November and is flagged from early October.

The same badge appears in both places a card is shown:

  • On the patient's Billing page under Saved payment methods, for staff.
  • On the patient's own saved cards in the portal, so they can swap it before you have to ask.

What happens next

Until the month ends, the badge is only a label. The card keeps working for everything the patient authorized. Once it lapses, the badge becomes Expired and each use shows card expired as the reason it is unavailable, instead of a greyed-out button with no explanation.

To replace it, add a new card and make it the default, or remove the old one. Patients can do the same from the portal; see patients manage their cards and card on file.

Flagged in advance.

Try it in your own practice.
