In December a patient needs proof of what she paid this year for her HSA. She used to email the front desk and wait. Now she signs in, opens her Appointments page and downloads each receipt herself.
Where it appears
A Billing section sits on the patient's Appointments page whenever your practice has invoicing on. Its header says what they owe, what they hold in credit, or Nothing due. If they have prepaid packages, each shows the sessions left and, when there is one, the date it runs out. A practice with invoicing off, or a patient with nothing to show, sees no Billing section at all.
Invoices and receipts
- Invoices: every invoice you have issued to that patient, newest first, each with its status and a Download button for the PDF. Drafts stay yours until you issue them.
- Payments: a separate list of what they paid, with a Receipt button for each payment that has a receipt number. Refunds, pending refunds and disputes are noted on the row, so the list does not quietly drop a payment.
- Paying: where Square is connected, an invoice with a balance gets Pay now for the full amount, using a saved card or a new one. If they have account credit, a Use credit button spends it on the invoice instead.
A patient can only fetch documents belonging to the record their sign-in is linked to, and each view is written to the access log. Access itself comes from Portal invites, and the rest of the page is described in Patient calendar.
