You add a field called Pain, and three months later someone asks whether it is out of ten or out of five. A field is easier to answer when it explains itself, so every field on a chart has a few settings for exactly that.
Open a field's settings
Go to Settings → Charting, find Chart templates and edit a chart. Each field is a row with a gear icon. Click it and the settings open inline under the row, one field at a time. A new field opens itself so you can name it straight away. Collapsed rows carry small badges, so you can scan the list: a width icon, a dot when the field has a hint, an info icon when it has a tooltip.
What you can set
- Label and type. The label is the question. Types are Free text (short), Free text (paragraph), Email, Yes / No, Single select, Multiple select, Date, Percentage, Number and Repeater.
- Hint: one line of helper text that always shows under the field on the session.
- Tooltip: longer guidance behind an info icon, for detail you only need sometimes.
- Width: Narrow, Half or Full, for how much of the row the field takes next to its neighbors. Click the chosen width again to clear it and let the field flow on its own.
- Answer placeholder, for short text, paragraph, email and number fields: example text that disappears when someone starts typing and is never saved as an answer.
- Options, for Single select and Multiple select: one row per option, each with up and down buttons, so the order in the picker is the order you chose.
- Minimum, maximum and step for Number; Percentage keeps its 0 to 100 range and takes a step only.
- Default value, for every type except Repeater. A paragraph default can hold formatting, such as a bold heading with blank lines under it.
A Repeater is a repeating list of entries, such as a Problems field where each entry has its own sub-fields. It takes an Item label (Problem gives Problem 1, Problem 2) and its sub-fields are edited the same way, one level deep. The ready-made sets in starter chart fields use these same settings.
Defaults only start new sessions
A default value is filled in when a session is created, from the chart that session uses. It is never written over a session that has already been charted. Built-in sections such as Points and Pulse are placed rather than defined by you, so they only take a label, a width, a hint and a tooltip.
Order, removing and saving
Fields move with the up and down buttons at the left of each row, not by dragging, and the order you set is the order on the Notes tab. Remove deletes the field from that chart. Labels, hints, tooltips and other text save when you click out of the box; every other change, such as picking a width or a type, saves at once. Nothing has a Save button.
Beside the list, the Chart map draws your fields as blocks in their order and width and highlights the one you have open. Preview chart opens the chart with real inputs, hints, tooltips and defaults, so you can see what staff will. See a chart for each service for how charts are assigned to services.
