Saved views

Save a search, filter or sort as a named tab on the Patients list, for yourself or the whole practice.

You ask the same question every Monday: who is overdue, who has not rebooked, who came from that one referral. You can rebuild the filters each time, or set them up once and click a tab.

Save what you have set up

On Patients, set up the list the way you want it: type a search, add filters, click a header to sort. Then choose + New view above the table, name it and press Save. The button stays greyed out until there is something to save, with a hint to add a filter, search or sort first.

A view remembers three things: the search text, the filters and the sort. It does not remember the page you were on, the page size, or your column choices and widths, which stay with your browser (see the patient roster). Because the filters are stored with the view, a view can hold a search or a filter on a name or a phone number, the kind of thing that never goes into a web address.

A view per question, with the selected one marked edited.

Personal or for the practice

Anyone on your team can save a personal view, which only they see. An owner or admin also gets a Who can see it choice in the save form: Just me or Whole practice. Practice views come first in the strip, then a divider, then your own.

Only an owner or admin can change a practice view, by renaming, updating or deleting it. A personal view can be changed or deleted only by the person who made it, admins included. Everyone can use Duplicate as my view, in the ⋯ menu of the selected tab, to take a copy of any view as their own to adjust.

Adjust a view without losing it

Change a filter or the sort while a view is selected and its tab says edited. Three things appear on it: Update saves the changes into that view, with an Undo for a few seconds afterwards; Save as… keeps them as a new view and leaves the original alone; and the ↺ button throws the changes away. The ⋯ menu on the selected tab also renames and deletes.

Only six tabs show at once, plus whichever is selected. The rest are under a More (n) button with a Find a view box.

Choose what Patients opens to

An owner or admin can choose Make default for practice on a practice view, and that view, marked with a star, is what everyone sees when they open Patients with nothing else selected. Only one view is the default at a time, and only a practice view can be it.

Share it with a colleague

Selecting a view puts only its id in the web address, as view=, along with the sort and any filters that identify no one. The search text and the filters on names, contacts and the like are read from the saved view itself, so a copied link never carries them. A colleague at your practice who opens it lands on the same list, as long as it is a practice view; a personal view does not open for anyone else. This is how to hand someone a private search, as the patient roster explains.

Views that come ready

Every practice starts with six practice views that cannot be renamed, changed or deleted: All patients and the five care status views, such as Lapsed. To start from one, adjust it and use Save as…, or Duplicate as my view.

A view applies to the whole list, so ticking patients from it to export them as a CSV works the same as anywhere else.

Try it in your own practice.
