You are three points into a treatment when the patient needs something and you step out of the room. When you come back, the chart is as you left it, because nothing in it was waiting for you to press Save.
What saves, and when
Every deliberate click saves straight away: points, pulse and tongue, pattern, technique, a custom field, and applying a protocol or copying the last session. Notes are the one field you type into continuously, so they wait for a pause. About five seconds after your last keystroke the note saves, and leaving the field saves it at once, so you never wait out the timer after you move on.
Each save writes the whole chart as it stands and adds a row to Session history, which folds a run of plain saves into one group so a long visit stays readable. The Other box under Pattern is the exception: it has no save of its own and goes out with the next save, whether that is another click, the notes pause or Save changes. Save changes is still there at the bottom when you want to finish and return to the details page.
Watching it happen
While a save is running, a small note appears in the bottom right corner reading Saving…, then Saved, which fades after a couple of seconds. It sits in a fixed spot rather than next to the field you touched, so you can see it wherever you were working.
When a save doesn't go through
A failed save shows Couldn't save, with the reason when there is one, and stays on screen until the next save attempt. What you entered stays in the editor, and Goji does not retry on its own. The next change you make sends the whole chart again, so it catches up everything the failed save missed. Charting needs a connection to save reliably; there is no offline mode.
Closing the tab or reloading while you are still typing in Notes can lose the last few seconds, since the pause has not run out yet. Click out of the field first if you are about to leave.
Signed charts
A signed chart does not autosave. The fields are read-only and the server refuses writes, so unsign it first to correct something. If you change your mind about a note you are still typing, Undo cancels it before it saves.
