A follow-up often starts where the last visit ended: same points, same pulse picture, same pattern. Retyping them is the part nobody wants, so the chart can start from the previous visit and you edit the differences.
Where it is and what it copies
Open a patient's session. At the top of the chart editor, above the protocols strip, is a button labelled Copy from last session with the date of the visit it would copy, in your date format, for example Copy from last session (Sep 2, 2026). Beside it is Clear session. The copy button appears only when the patient has another session on file; for a first visit there is nothing to copy, so only Clear session shows. Neither appears on a signed session, which is read-only.
The last session is the patient's most recent other session by appointment date, not necessarily a completed or signed one. Sessions in the trash are ignored.
What comes across:
- Points, with their sides.
- Pulse, including the pulse by position, and tongue.
- Pattern, including any Other pattern text.
- Technique, such as modalities and retention minutes.
Technique start time is left blank, since that was when the needles went in last time, not now. The note and custom fields are not copied either, because they describe that visit. Diagnosis codes are not part of the copy; the superbill page offers a patient's default or last-used codes instead, as a suggestion you confirm.
It replaces the chart
Unlike applying a protocol, which merges into what you have, copying starts the chart over from the last visit. Anything already on this chart, including a note you had begun or custom fields you had filled in, is replaced, and the visit is saved as a draft. There is no confirmation dialog, because nothing is lost: the copy saves as one step in session history, labelled Copied last session with the date, and Undo takes it back in one click.
Or start clean
Clear session resets every field to a blank draft, including the note and custom fields. It saves the same way, as Cleared session in History, so it is just as recoverable. Neither button changes which chart template the session uses.
