Drag to book

Drag across open space on the calendar to start a booking, or block time off, at exactly that time.

A patient on the phone says Thursday at 10:30. You can see the gap on the grid, so draw it.

Drag across the gap

On Day, Few Days or Week, press on open space in a column and drag down. A highlighted block follows the pointer and shows the start and end time as it grows. Times snap to 15 minutes, and even a plain click selects a 15-minute slot. Release, and a small menu asks what you want to add. Press Escape or click elsewhere and the selection goes away without changing anything.

Drag, then choose.

What the booking form starts with

New appointment opens the usual booking form above the calendar, scrolled into view, with the date and Time from your drag and the Provider whose column you used. Grouped by room, the Room is filled in instead. The Service starts as whichever one is closest in length to your drag, so a 60-minute stretch lands on your hour-long treatment. You can change any of it. The form's length comes from the service you pick, not from how far you dragged.

Everything else works as it does from the + New appointment button, including overlap protection: if the time double-books the provider, you get the same warning and a Book anyway option.

Or block the time instead

Block time off opens the time-off form for that provider with the date and hours from your drag, already set as a partial day with From and To. Add a Reason if you like, or switch to a date range or a recurring weekday (partial-day time off). When the calendar is grouped by room there is no menu, because time off belongs to a provider: the drag goes straight to a new appointment.

Where it works

  • Mouse and trackpad only. Dragging with a finger is ignored so it doesn't fight scrolling. On a phone, use + New appointment or Take time off (calendar on a phone).
  • A drag stays in one column on one day. Start on open space: pressing on an existing appointment or time-off band opens it instead.
  • The Month view has no time grid, so there is nothing to drag on.

Try it in your own practice.
